A new version of Microsoft's Application Verifier (part of the Applcation Compatibility Toolkit) includes "Print Verifier", reinstatement of checking operating system compatibliity for Windows Logo and ThreadPool checking. 

Application Verifier is a great way to know what applications are not up to par in terms of calling modern Windows APIs to perform their functionality - in essence revealing bad programming habits and techniques by watching already compiled applications execute.  It also assists in creating custom compatibliity tweaks to allow older applications to run (or run better) on Windows XP.
