VMWare Workstation 5.5 has been released and it has many cool new features ...

The new features include support for 64 bit Guest OSes, 2 Way Virtual SMP and many other minor functionality improvements.  My favorite features are the VMWare player which allows others to play your virtual machines without requiring a VMWare license - great for training, demos and other uses.  Another great feature is the ability to directly convert Virtual PC images to VMWare VMs.  Finally the ability to open and directly play Symantec LiveState or Ghost 9/10 images really rocks!  If you are already using these products to backup your systems you can gain access to an entire backed up machine configuration without reloading the backup!  So when would you need that?  I recently had a probably where one of passwords for MSN was locked away in a backup of my computer configuration.  Passwords such as these are stored in something called "Protected Storage" - and although it's in the registry you basically have to have the original machine configuration running to gain access - you can't simple restore the registry file and hack a way at it or run protected storage browsers against it - this type of scenario is perfect for playing a backup image and gaining access to the whole machine.
