FAQ: Are Prerequisities Required?

Prerequisities or equivalent knowledge are required.  However, when you have the option to assess whether you feel you have sufficient prior knowledge to meet the prerequisities.  If you feel you do, then you can take higher level courses without taking the lower level ones.

Here are a couple things to keep in mind when doing your self-assessment:

  • Although you may be experienced in the field, lower level courses may bring out important aspects of Windows Installer that are unknown to you because they are not currently utilized in your organization.
  • The content coverage in higher level classes assumes familiarity with the stated prerequisities - you may be unable to keep up with the content without this background.  The course cannot be slowed down to accomodate lack of prerequisite knowledge.
  • For those who will be doing packaging or building infrastructre for Windows Installer, it is very difficult to do these tasks correctly if you do not have a good foundation in how Windows Installer operates.
